Find out which Arab institutions top the Times Higher Education Arab University Rankings 2024.
Rankings include 238 universities in 16 Middle Eastern and North African nations. A additional 112 universities are listed as “reporter” since they contributed data but did not match our league table qualifying standards.
Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah University of Science and Technology ranks highest. All of the top five institutions are in the Middle East, whereas North African universities like Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria are further down.
Egypt has 42 universities, the most in the list. Algeria follows with 37 institutions.
1. King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia
Founded in 2009, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is young.
This is Saudi Arabia’s first mixed-gender university.
Science and technology courses include bioengineering, computer science, statistics, earth science and engineering, and others.
The official language of teaching is English.
2. Saudi Arabia’s King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals
The College of Petroleum and Minerals, KFUPM, was founded in 1963 to teach about Saudi Arabia’s most significant natural resources.
It became a university in 1975 and now offers science, engineering, technology, and business courses.
The acceptance rate is less than 10%, making admissions challenging.
3. Qatar University, Qatar
Qatar University is a public university in Doha.
It has 10 colleges, encompassing arts and sciences, business, economics, engineering, and law. The institution provides 47 bachelor’s, 29 master’s, 20 PhD, nine certificates, and a PharmD program. The institution offers Arabic and English courses.
Campus facilities include a library, male and female student activity buildings, a student learning support center, and a student counseling center.
4. King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia
Jeddah’s private King Abdulaziz University (KAU) was founded in 1967. KAU joined Saudi state universities in 1973.
The institution has 24 faculties, spanning arts and the humanities, law, medicine, dentistry, communications and media, computers and IT, and economics and administration.
Student services include financial aid, transportation, housing, and foreign student assistance.
